Date: July 2009: Concerns about lack of funding for vital research into children's renal tumours

We have been very concerned to hear that funding for Wilms tumour research carried out in the UK has been stopped which will result in no more research in this area in the UK after January 2010. Even though we are very happy to know that most children now recover from Wilms Tumour, we hear from too many families where things have not gone well and their loved one does not recover. As long as children have to die from this disease we will highlight the importance of research in this area and children's renal tumours in general.

This is especially the case since we know that many new potential treatment agents have become more available in adult cancer treatment and experts believe that some of these agents may be effective in the treatment of children's cancers.

We have now started to raise funds for further research into children's renal tumours and would like to ask you to donate (if you can) marking your donation (for supporting research into children's renal tumours and more effective treatment for all these children). Thank you very much for your kindness.

Monica

Date: July 2009: New Website

As you may have noticed Wilms at Home has a new website. Of special interest is the forum section added. We know a lot of you visit back here regularly, so please get in touch to get a log in and start using the discussion forum. Sometimes it is best to hear directly from other families, and we will endeavour to ensure you have your login as quickly as possible.

Date: July 2009 - Wilms Tumour Booklet

Wilms at Home is presently working together with the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG- www.cclg.org.uk) and Professor Kathy Pritchard-Jones on a booklet for families affected by Wilms Tumour. The idea being that such a booklet can be given to families at time of diagnosis or during treatment. We hope that the booklet will be ready to be distributed in a few months times..

Please contact Monica if you would like to make suggestions as to what should be included in such a booklet.
